Question

Typographers apostrophe stuck with extra space

This seems to be a problem that just happened recently with my Photoshop, where all curly apostrophe’s have like two extra spaces around them. This doesn’t happen in Indesign or Illustrator, and occurs with all fonts. I’ve turned Smart Quotes on or off and doesn’t make a difference. It’s actually worse with Smart Quotes on because it refuses to let me insert straight apostrophe’s from the glyphs panel, and selects the curly version by itself. Is there a setting I'm overlooking to disable it?

Hi @Larry29731486lwom! Sorry to hear you're running into issues with your fonts in Photoshop—that can definitely be frustrating.

Just to get a better idea of what’s going on, what version of Photoshop are you using? Does this happen with all fonts, or only certain ones? And do you happen to have any third-party font managers installed?

As a first step, it might help to clear Photoshop’s font cache. Here’s how you can do that:

First, quit both Photoshop and the Creative Cloud desktop app. Then, head to this location on your Mac: /Users/[your username]/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop
If you’re not seeing the Library folder, it’s hidden by default—check out Adobe’s guide on how to access hidden user library files.

Once you’re there, delete the CT Font Cache folder and empty the Trash.

Let me know if that helps or if you run into any trouble along the way!

Thank you deleting the cache folder worked!

It still won't let me insert straight marks manually through the gylph panel with Smart Quotes on but thats a separate issue.

I may have typed too soon, I suspect this is being triggered by a text layer from an old project. As soon as I open and modify that particular layer everything subsequent has the spacing problem. If your curious I attached the psd file.
