Question

Unable to open a specific PSD file

I've run into an issue opening a PSD file I previously worked on several months ago. Photoshop simply gets stuck on the "Preparing Smart Object" step and it takes a very long time to open a fairly simple file. The fans on the computer kick up doing this too, so I've never let it finish. However, the same file opens relatively fine on a laptop I have as well. It struggles a bit on the same step, but it doesn't get stuck at it.

I've already tried restarting the computer and updating GPU drivers, but the result is the same.

Here are some specs from the computers involved:

The Desktop (which I believe created the file back in June)

I can provide the file privately, if necessary. Just not sure why this is happening and what could be done to prevent it. In the meantime, I could just export the flattened layers I need from the computer that can actually open the file so I can continue my work.

Hey @Wabber_HM

Thank you for sharing your system info. May I ask if turning off your GPU helps? What is your memory usage set to?

You can check out how to turn off your GPU here: https://adobe.ly/3LpfTkw
