Unable to pen NEF files from Nikon Z50ii

Question

Unable to load NEF files from my Nikon Z50ii.  I followed the directions to manually upload and install the 17.1 version, to no avail.  I am really upset that I spent the money and still can't use it!   My OS is Win 11, i tried both installers, one would't even let me try it.

Hey, @toxdoc42. Welcome to the Photoshop Community. I'll help you figure this out.

Please share the system info from Photoshop Help > System info > Copy and paste into a text document > Upload and attach here.

Does this happen with a specific set of images? Where are the original NEF files stored, on an internal or external drive? In Photoshop, press & hold the CTRL + ALT key, go to Edit > Preferences > Camera Raw Preferences, and select 'Yes' when prompted to reset Camera Raw preferences.
