Unable to use gradation on a mask

Its been for a couple of years at least., that i cant use gradient on the mask in additive fashion by gradually revealing or hiding the layer even when using classical gradient. 

Is there a dix so far? Amy pinned threads that we users can request to bring this simple option that has been for years back?

    Hi ​@Tom Tom ,

    The mask tool has been updated to be “live” by default. This allows you to edit the mask at any time.

    If you prefer the previous behavior, choose Classic Gradient from the toolbar.
