Question

Updated PS (using PS 25.12.3) and lost my recent Brush and Gradient Presets

I organized my brushes a day ago while working on an illustration project renaming and fine tunning them while working on a new project. I went to sleep thinking "Wow I finally got something going with the brushes and feeling comfortable about painting in photoshop rather than with actual paints. I updated the next day because there was an update and I said, "Why not?"

Now the gradients and brush presets are gone. I didn't change anything including my current workspace and after hours of collecting and organizing things for my project there are no longer there.

The only thing I can imagine is I restarted my machine the next day, but I assumed Photoshop saves my presets on the spot. Am I wrong about this? Do I have to quit Photoshop before restarting so it saves those changes?

I can't update to the latest PS version 26 because CC suggests I should buy a new computer. I have an iMac 2015 I purchased new in 2016.

Hey @KillerRabbit — sorry to hear your brushes went missing, that’s super frustrating!

Just to get a better idea of what might’ve happened, do you remember which version of Photoshop you were using before, and which one you updated to? Also, did you update through the Creative Cloud app? If so, could you check if the option to import previous preferences was selected?

You might also want to give Apple’s Time Machine a try to recover your brush files — it’s helped in similar situations before.

Let me know how it goes, and I’ll be here if you need more help!

It should have been the prior version of Photoshop before the latest one. I can no longer have Photoshop auto-update becausde it says "it may not work well on my computer." So eventually will need to get a new computer. The Adavnaced Options are clicked to the same as above also. Not sure why thigns changed after the update. I'll have to manually save my presets (actions, gradients, etc) and any other preset from now on like I used to before creative cloud saved it or saved as a workspace preset.
