Question

using NEF or RAW files in Photoshop Nikon D90

I use a Nkon D90 which generates NEF as it's RAW file extension.  My version of Photoshop (6) will not recognize either of the extensions.  Renaming NEF with a RAW extension does not help.  Any ideas?

Photoshop v 6 or Photoshop CS6?

If the latter,  then you should be fine. The D90 needs Adobe Camera Raw 5.1 or later. CS6 shipped with ACR version 7.

Is this Photoshop or Photoshop Elements? If using Photoshop 6, the first version of camera raw was for Photoshop 7, so I don't think even a dng converted would help. If using Photoshop Elements, you need at least version 5.1 of Camera Raw, which I'm not sure is still around to download. You might be able to use the dng converted to convert the files so that you can open them. Or you might need to find a Nikon app that will convert the files to a readable type for your version of PS.

Hi there,

Could you please let us know the exact version of Photoshop you're working on? You can checkthe version by going to Help > System Info

Also, please check this article to know whether D90 is compatible with the version of Photoshop you're working on or not: https://helpx.adobe.com/in/camera-raw/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
