Using Photoshop-edited CC0 images in GPL WordPress theme
Dear Adobe Photoshop Community,
I’m a WordPress theme developer. I plan to release a theme on WordPress.org, where all bundled images must be GPL-compatible.
I would like to clarify how your terms apply in this situation:
- If I take a CC0/public-domain image, edit it in Photoshop with standard tools (crop, color, retouching, etc.), then export it, does Adobe add any restrictions on the resulting image? Can I still redistribute that edited image under the GPL inside my theme?
- If I use Photoshop’s AI features (e.g. generative fill, style changes) on a CC0 image that I provide, are there any additional rights or license terms on the output that would prevent me from redistributing that image under the GPL (allowing users to copy, modify, and redistribute it)?
My goal is simply to confirm whether using Photoshop (including AI tools) on CC0 images keeps the result free to distribute under GPL with my WordPress theme.
Thank you in advance for your help.
