Weird Photoshop Selection Problem

Hello. There's been this weird bug in Photoshop that's been on going for a year+. I didn't say anything cause I assumed it would be fix in one of the patches. But it still happens. Basically- sometimes when I'm on the selection tool it would just randomly "not let me do anything any more". ESC does nothing. clicking on anything does nothing. I basically am forced to task manager close the program down and restart. It's very distruptive. Please fix.

I haven't heard this reported by anyone else. Can you tell us more?

  • Which selection tool are you using when your your screen freezes?
  • Have you made a selection or just clicked on one of the selection tools?
  • If you've made a selection, can you deselect?

Also, please tell us your OS version and Photoshop version. What is your GPU?

I've moved your post from Creative Cloud Desktop to the Photoshop forum for you.

Same thing happening on Macbook Air M2, latest OS.

Sometimes when using rectangle selection tool, photoshop becomes completely unresponsive and starts using 35GB of ram (I have 8gb?) and the "Image" tab opens up and stays open (can't be closed). Can not click on any other tabs or tools, can't save, can not quit, only force quit ..

How much space is free on your internal drive? This sounds like Photoshop running out of RAM and scratch disk space. 8GB is marginal for running Photoshop, you really should have 16GB or more, and you need lots of free space on your drive.
