What are the best Photoshop settings for creating images for websites and social media?

For web and social media, the best Photoshop settings depend on where the image will be used but a good general setup is RGB Color, sRGB color profile and 72–150 PPI. For websites resize the image to the actual display dimensions before exporting and use JPEG for photographs or PNG/WebP when transparency or sharper graphics are needed. For social media, use the platform’s recommended dimensions and export in sRGB to avoid unexpected color changes. In Photoshop, File → Export → Export As is a simple option and keeping the file size reasonably small helps pages load faster without noticeably reducing image quality.

​@nice_perfectiona18d as per ​@davescm I normally save my images as PNGs. I size them properly: if I’m creating a CTA that’s 200×200 pixels, the largest I might increase it to is 400×400 pixels. There’s no need for anything like 4,000×4,000 pixels. I only scale it up a little so I have more room to work while editing.

Canvas size - get the size required, in pixels, from your social media or website provider. 
Resolution - this is irrelevant for on screen images and is used for converting images on printing. 1 ppi or 1000ppi - it makes no difference on screen.
Colour Mode - Always RGB for on screen
Export settings - always check convert to sRGB and Embed Colour profile.
