What’s the best way to make a professional-looking before-and-after comparison in Photoshop?

Thanks for reaching out. For a website, I’d recommend starting with a clean side by side or 50/50 split layout. It makes the comparison immediately understandable while keeping both originals visible.

A simple Photoshop workflow would be:

1. Place the Before and After images in the same document on separate layers.
2. If there are two versions of the same photograph, use Edit > Auto-Align Layers to line them up precisely.
3. Use View > Guides > New Guide to place a guide at the center of the document and create an accurate 50/50 division.
4. Use a layer mask on the upper image to reveal exactly half of the image underneath. This keeps the workflow non-destructive.
5. Add subtle Before and After labels, keeping the same font, size, positioning, and margins on each side.

For an interactive drag-the-slider comparison on a website, I’d recommend creating the two perfectly aligned images in Photoshop, then implementing the slider on the website.

Photoshop is better used to ensure both source images have identical dimensions, crop, and alignment.
