Question

When I Edit In PS or Export to PS from LRC the PS menu is missing. I have to press F a couple of times to get it back.

I have to press F a couple of times to get it back. If I just open PS stand-alone the menus are there, Apple M5 Max, 128 GB memory. Mac OS Golden Gate 27.2. Latest version of LRC and PS.

Hi Ray — thanks for the details. One clarification first: the DNG part is actually expected behaviour. Adobe’s guide says the Edit Original / Edit a Copy options apply to JPEG, TIFF, and PSD files only — not to camera raw or DNG files — so a DNG opens straight into Photoshop (via Camera Raw) with no Edit Photo dialog. That part isn’t a sign that Lightroom Classic is corrupted: https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/desktop/work-with-external-editors/open-lightroom-photos-external-applications.html

So the real remaining problem is the PSD one: Edit Original opens Photoshop without the menu bar. Jeff’s suggestion just above — turning off “Enable Native Full Screen” in Photoshop 2026 > Settings > Workspace — is the next thing I’d try, since it matches the full-screen behaviour you’re seeing. Let us know if that changes it.

“Enable Native Full Screen” was unchecked. I decided to check it on and then closed PS. Then I restarted PS and unchecked it. I’m seeing the same behavior when I Edit Original - no menu/tabs. Have to press F a couple of times to get to the Standard Screen.

In Photoshop go to Photoshop 2026>Settings>Workspace, uncheck Enable Native Full Screen, restart Photoshop then see if that made any difference.

Thanks for the screenshot — that's very helpful. In it, the first two options in the 'Edit Photo with Adobe Photoshop 2026' dialog are greyed out and only 'Edit Original' can be selected, and the dialog has a large empty area below the buttons.

Two things would help pin this down:

    1. What kind of file is the photo in the screenshot — raw, JPEG, TIFF, or something else? Does the same greyed-out dialog appear if you try Edit in Photoshop with a different photo, for example a raw file?

    2. If you click Edit with 'Edit Original' selected, does Photoshop open, and is the menu bar missing then too?

    1. I was editing a PSD file in the screenshot. If I Edit in PS a DNG file the dialog box does not come up, rather it immediately goes to PS (without menu/tabs) as a DNG. If it were working properly for a DNG it should give me an option to edit a copy, edit copy with changes, edit original.
    2. Yes, when edit original comes is selected for PSD files the menu bar is missing.

All of this seems to suggest to me that something is corrupted in LrC.

That F behavior points to Photoshop opening in a Full Screen Mode, which hides the menu bar. To return to the default view, choose View > Screen Mode > Standard Screen Mode — that view shows the menu bar and scroll bars. Pressing F cycles through the screen modes, which is why pressing it a few times brings the menu back. If you prefer a full-screen view with the menu still visible, choose View > Screen Mode > Full Screen Mode With Menu Bar instead. Yes, that is all understood. However, in the past when I launched PS from LRC via either CMD-E or CMD-SHIFT-E to open a photo PS would launch in the standard screen mode. Now it opens in a pseudo full screen mode where there is no top level menu line nor file tab. I have to cycle through with the F key to get to the standard screen mode which is my default preference. Is a preferences file corrupted?

Thanks for clarifying — that change from launching in Standard mode to launching without the menu/tab bar is exactly the kind of unexpected behavior Adobe lists for a damaged preferences file, so testing a reset is the right next step, in this order:

    1. First, set the mode you want and let Photoshop save it: in Photoshop, choose View > Screen Mode > Standard Mode, then quit Photoshop normally (don't force-quit, as settings are saved when you close the app). Then try Cmd-E / Cmd-Shift-E from Lightroom Classic again.

    2. If it still launches without the menu bar, reset the preferences: back up your settings first, then close Photoshop completely, hold Option + Command + Shift while launching Photoshop, and click Yes when asked to delete the Adobe Photoshop Settings file. Photoshop will start with default preferences.

That reset will clear your custom settings, so back them up before step 2. If the reset doesn't change the launch behavior, please let us know — that would point to something else, and it would help to know whether Photoshop launched on its own still opens in Standard mode.
