    Hi Theo,

Just to add to @justlearn suggestions, does the freezing happen with every image, including a small image in a new document, or only with particular files?

Also, when cropping, are you using the standard Crop tool with Content-Aware disabled, or is Content-Aware Fill or Generative Expand involved?

Could you also confirm your Photoshop version and operating system?

Those details would help narrow down whether this is a general performance issue or something specific to the cropping operation.

@Theo Landman Before you start to do some changes to fix your issue, turn on Automatically Save Recovery Information under Preferences > File Handling and save your document before cropping. If the problem only occurs with one file, try duplicating the document and cropping the copy to see if the original file is damaged.

If Photoshop freezes every time you crop, try turning off Use Graphics Processor in Photoshop > Settings/Preferences > Performance, then restart Photoshop and test again. A video driver or GPU compatibility issue is one of the most common causes of freezes during cropping, transforming, and zooming.

Also check that you're running the latest version of Photoshop, have enough free scratch disk space, and reset the Crop tool by right-clicking its icon in the Options bar and choosing Reset Tool.
