When trying to use Generative Upscale (Topaz Gigapixel) on an Adobe stock image that is (5000x2813) - 16.667”x9.377” 300 dpi - 40.2M, I am getting an message that “the output is too large, exceeds 56MP. Try a smaller scale or reduce the image size.” The problem is this image is for a 20’x10’ booth background. Any thoughts?

    Hi @katherine_4440,

Thanks for reaching out. The message you’re seeing is due to the current output-size limit for the Topaz Gigapixel model in Photoshop’s Generative Upscale, which supports outputs up to 56 megapixels.

Your image is 5000 × 2813 pixels (~14.1 MP). At 2× upscale, the resulting image would be 10,000 × 5,626 pixels, or approximately 56.26 MP, which is just over the 56 MP limit. That’s why Photoshop is preventing the upscale.

As a workaround, you can slightly reduce the source image's pixel dimensions before running Generative Upscale. For example, reducing it to approximately 4980 × 2802 pixels would allow a 2× upscale while keeping the resulting image below the 56 MP limit. After the Generative Upscale is complete, you can use Image > Image Size for any additional resizing required for the final output.

Also, for a 20’ × 10’ booth background, you generally don’t need the same pixel density you would use for a print viewed at a very close range. I would recommend checking with your print provider for their required final pixel dimensions or effective PPI at full size before enlarging the image further. Large-format printers often have specific recommendations based on the material and expected viewing distance.

One other question: are you currently selecting 2× or 4× in Generative Upscale? A 4× upscale of this image would be far beyond the current Topaz Gigapixel output limit.

    I hope this helps!
