Question

When will the histogram in photoshop be updated to reflect the extended range of 16 bit HDR images?

It currently does not look like the 32 bit HDR histogram.

I have the latest version of Photoshop and Lightroom Classic. Typically I edit in Lightroom as HDR  and send to Photoshop in 16 bit. The reason being some of my Photoshop plugins won’t run in 32 bit. I then export as a JPG in the color space HDR P3 to send to my iPad Pro. It all works for me. I just wish the Photoshop histogram displayed the same in 16 bit as it does in 32 bit and like Lightroom does when in HDR mode.

Hi @AlaskaWild, Thanks for reaching out to the Photoshop Community Forum! Photoshop's full HDR workflow uses 32-bit float mode, which is where these histogram improvements apply. If you're working in 16-bit integer mode, that mode has a fixed value range (0–32768), and the histogram already covers it, but it won't show extended HDR tonal mapping as 32-bit mode does. For the best HDR histogram experience, working in 32-bit mode is recommended.
To help us understand your situation better:

    • Which version of Photoshop are you currently running?

    • Are you working in 32-bit or 16-bit mode?

    • What file format are you using (EXR, CR3 HDR, etc.)?

Since June 2026, the histogram uses the Adobe Camera Raw tone curve for 32-bit images, making the full SDR-to-HDR range visible. If you’re open to it, adding a bit more detail can help provide more context for this request. Thanks! ^CH
