Question

Where are Photoshop files stored

I am working in a Windows environment on an ACER desktop with the latest version of PS and LR.  While I do most of my photoediting in LR, I have a series of photos that require focus stacking. I import those files into PS, auto-align and auto blend so now I have the photograph that is a blend of a few others. Where is that stored? I can repon it by using recent projects but since the source photos were in a collection in LR is the blended photo also stored there? In other words since the work I intend to do editorial will mean relying on LR, will I find the PS blended version available or am I forced to continue the editorial process in PS?

The files are stored where you choose to store them. That's what the Save As dialog is for.

This applies to both Photoshop and Lightroom. The files are not stored in Lightroom! They are stored on disk, and the Lightroom catalog contains a record of where they are. You decide where they go in the Lightroom Import dialog.

Always pay attention to where you save your files! That's the only way you can easily find them again.

There is a default location that Windows will use if you do not specify a location, usually under My Documents. But there are many reasons why this may not be optimal Make a decision where you want to save, and make a logical folder tree under the master folder.

In short - take control over this right away, or you'll pretty soon be completely lost.
