Why can't i hold down the undo/stepbackward key ?

I'm using Photoshop for digital painting (on Windows) and i can't hold down the key until i reach the desired state i have to press ctrl z again and again to came back where i wanted. I'm using it on Mac at school and it seems to work perfectly fine is this an issue only on Windows ?

It may be an operating system or keyboard setting that allows this.

Just tried to hold down 'step backwards' (ctrl-z) on Illustrator and it continued stepping backwards, undoing as long as I kept holding the keys down still don't know why it doesn't work on Photoshop...

Not sure what versions you are running where, so guessing here. But the newest version of Photoshop has added in multiple steps of undo and the ctrl-z is where it lives. So each time you click it, it moves back one step in your process.

Yes i'm using the cc 2019

the issue i'm talking about is that i can't hold the ctrl-z key to go back where i want.

i need to click it for each undo

I don't know if I understand you right.

The behaviour has changed with CC2019. You can revert to the old behaviour in the preferences.

Do you know the Protocol panel? In this panel you can go back a lot of steps with one click.
