Why can't I undo crop?

I'm new to Photoshop and pretty frustrated. I've been working on an image for a few hours. Quite a few edits back, I cropped the image. I used the crop tool (the "delete cropped pixels" was NOT checked). I also changed the image size in Image: Image Size. I have not saved the image since I started working on it. I'm trying to go back to the orignal image size and I can't. I tried "Orignal ratio" in the crop tool and "Fit to: Original size" in Image Size. It's too far back in history as well. Is it not possible to do this?? Without saving or checking "delete cropped pixels" it just erases the origanl size data? I know I can "Revert" to go back to the orignal image, but I'll lose all of the other edits I've been working on for hours. When I crop in Lightroom I can go back 100 edits later and the original size is still accessible. I chatted with a live agent via Adobe Support who told me 3 times to go back in history, I told them 3 times I couldn't go back that far and then they ended the chat. Thanks a lot "support".

if y ou did not accidentally save the file, you can go to file menu and choose to revert to previous veriosn. The image will be just the same as you opened it. If you saved the file, game is over.

If you go back to original it should be what you started with. Unless you saved it and closed it. But you will loss anything you have done to the photo by going back to original.

Using such a professional application with a steep learning curve can be frustrating. I suggest yiu get some training. There are some great training books (such as the Classroom in a Book series) and LinkinLearning have excellent step-by-step online video tutorials - you can get 30-days free access. And of course you can pose specific questions on this forum.

I have encountered this problem a couple of times because I mistook the crop tool icon for something else I wanted to select and couldn't undo. I just had another incident with it yesterday which lands me here after googling. Luckily I reverted by scrolling through the history panel. Can Adobe provide an "Undo" button or popup warning?

To sum up: Your problem here is not the crop tool. Your problem is that you resampled the image.

When "Delete Cropped Pixels" is unchecked for the Crop tool, pixels won't be deleted. To reveal hidden pixels use Image > Reveal All. From your description it seems Image Size was used, in that case you can not reveal pixels as previously explained. One way to go back, actually at the beginning what means you will lost all changes is to use File > Revert. You can also increase number of History states as explained but in that case you will lost all edits that comes after that particular state.

Sounds like it is too late for the image you're working on, but for future, you can set the number of History States in Preferences > Performance. 1,000 is the maximum.

Whenever you are at a critical step that you may want to go back to, you can create a new Snapshot in the History panel. Unlike History States, Snapshots will always be there as long as the file is open.
