Question

Why do some Adobe tools behave differently after updates, even with the same settings?

I have noticed that after certain Adobe updates, some tools (like selection, brushes, or shortcuts) don’t behave exactly the same as before even though my preferences and workspace settings look unchanged.

Is this due to under-the-hood improvements, performance optimizations, or compatibility adjustments?
I am curious how other users handle this and whether there is a recommended way to keep workflows consistent after updates.

Has anyone else experienced this, and how do you usually adapt or troubleshoot it?

    Do you use custom shortcuts?

    If so please make sure to save the kys-file (and back it up).

    @alice_5607

    some tools … don’t behave exactly the same as before

    In addition to providing the details Ged is asking for, have you tried Resetting all tools?

    • Select the Move tool
    • Right-click the tool in the options bar (not toolbar)
    • Select Reset All Tools (or you can just reset the current tool)

    This will put all tools back to their defaults. When you change options for a tool, it is sticky — across time and across documents.
