Why does Command H does not hide Photoshop anymore?

Using Photoshop 27.4.0, Mac Tahoe 26.4, using my computer when working in Photoshop.  I used to be able to use Command H to hide the application as I worked between LR and Ps.  That shortcut continues to work on my older computer, on my new laptop, but for some reason no longer works on my Mac Mini.  The only way I can minimize it is to click on the yellow circle in top left corner.  I’ve gone into Keyboard Shortcuts, to View > Extras which shows the Command symbol+H.  How do I get the shortcut back the way I want it to work? Thanks in advance.

This is a new change and I don’t know when it started. It used to be that the first time you used Command+H, Photoshop would ask you if you wanted to use the Adobe Photoshop command to Hide Extras or the macOS command to hide the application.

If you wanted to see this option again, you could go to Settings > General > Reset All Warning Dialogs. Then the next time you used Cmd+H, you would see the question again. I just tested, and this no longer works.

The Photoshop menu now says the shortcut for Hide Photoshop is Control+Command+H. Hide Others is Option+Command+H.

Since the shortcut works on your older laptop, can you tell use which (exact) version of Photoshop you have there? I think this is a recent change. (I won’t say “update”!)

This is macOS only, since Windows never had a built-in command to hide the current application.

You could probably change the shortcut in Edit menu > Keyboard shortcuts, and then remove or change it for Hide/Show Extras as well.

I’ve just updated my Mac and my command + H to hide apps no longer works. Just worked out how to fix in case you want to change it back to the original shortcut. Open shortcut menu in the app - search Hide Photoshop and enter the shortcut you want it to be as per the below. Hope that helps!

I wish I could see the application option at the top of the drop downs lists. No matter if I open Keyboard Shortcuts and Menus in InDesign, Photoshop or Illustrator the application is not listed at the top.

Your screen shot looks like it’s in Microsoft Windows, but the Hide command being discussed in this thread is specific to macOS, because of basic differences in how macOS and Windows manage applications. So it’s probably normal that you can’t find the command, because the Hide command isn’t there in Windows to begin with. In fact all of the commands in that menu section – Hide [application name], Hide Others, and Show All – are macOS standard, but not present in Windows.

If you are in Microsoft Windows, and you want to do something comparable to the macOS operation of hiding the current application, I think you probably want to use the standard Windows feature called Minimize.

(I say “I think” because I’m not a daily Windows user, so someone may come in and correct me on whether Minimize is the comparable feature in Windows.)

The first time you use that command, Photoshop asks you whether it should be Help or Hide Extras. Which did you choose?

I have no recollection of ever having any option to choose anything when I started using Ps and the Hide photoshop command.  And while I was still able to use Command H to hide it on my laptop, that has just changed from yesterday to today and it no longer works.  I did nothing to make that change, except possibly an update to Photoshop.

And now it is working again with the Option + Shift + Command + H, although that didn’t work at all earlier this evening.

    Excuse Mr. Buttinski, Trevor.

It looks like command-H may have been changed to control-command-H

It also may have been overtaken by the Apple OS? Did you possibly change something in the OS on your Mac mini?

I changed nothing, except to update Photoshop on each new version that arrives.

Cmd H hides extras, (guides, selections etc.). Tab toggles toolbar and panels on and off.  I don’t use LR so can’t say if it is related to using both apps.

So can you be more specific?
