Will Photoshop detect iPad as a sensitive pressure tablet?

Hi all!

Currently I'm using macOS Catalina and iPad OS beta.

I was trying Apple Sidecar and while it works fine with Photoshop I can't active the pressure sensitivity in the brushes settings, it says that it only works with pressure sensitivity tablets.

I wonder if Adobe has plans to detect the iPad as a pressure sensitivity tablet?

Thanks!

Hi Lucas,

Since you are on beta for both Catalina and iPad OS, you might ask on those forums and open a discussion there. Whatever they are doing in the beta releases cannot be discussed here.

No! How could it? An iPad is not a pressure device like and Apple pencil or Wacom Pen...

Well, that's a very good point, I didn't realise such characteristic!

Don’t give up, Lucas! I found this. Photoshop is not mentioned as one of the Adobe apps, but that doesn’t mean it won’t be in the future. I’ve been working with software for 30 years and have seen many things come to pass that I never dreamed were possible.

“While the main features of Sidecar will work out of the box on day one, developers can add special support for Sidecar that enables the full feature set, like pressure sensitivity and tilt support for Apple Pencil. Apple says the following apps have confirmed support for Sidecar:

“Adobe: After Effects, Illustrator, Premiere Pro”

It’s okay that you raised the question, but the prerelease forums will be a better place to bring up those questions for discussion. And we can hope, right?

Hi Agt.Lucas:

This is a user-to-user forum, meaning that we are primarily users like you. We aren't privy to upcoming releases unless we are on the pre-release team, and in that case, we have signed NDAs. That said, you can sign up to "stay in the loop" here: Explore all Photoshop products on desktop, mobile| Adobe Creative Cloud. Some information will be released through that channel.

You could also use this link to put this in as a feature request: Photoshop Family Customer Community.

Thanks for the info BarbBinder!

I was referring to Photoshop for macOS itself, not the upcoming Photoshop for iPad, sorry for the confusion!

No worries! I think it's a great question—and feature request. I'd recommend adding to the ideas page using the link above.
