Question

Workspace Deletetion

I spend time arranging my palettes (3 monitors) so I can save the workspace and work faster.

EVERY TIME a major update comes out my workspace gets deleted and I have to spend time redoing it.

For the love of any deity, natural force, or just yourself, spend time on simple core functionality and less on things you think we all need to make work faster.

If you can get AI to arrange my palettes… then get to work.

That is the best that Adobe can do… remedially hack a software install?? It deletes workspace on a major, and some minor, upgrades… has for over a decade, maybe two. Sometimes it doesn’t. A lot of time is spent incorporating AI tools into this software. Maybe someone should ask AI how to solve this since so many other have the same issue.

I take it a step further and keep the custom workspace files in a central location so I can use them in the release and beta versions.  I point to that location with a Windows shortcut placed in the Workspace folders.  I do the same with brush presets and everything else.

Hey, @brightlycreative. Welcome to the Photoshop Community. I'll move this post to discussions. I'll need more info to help you figure this out.

First, you should always keep a backup of your customized Workspaces, Keyboard Shortcuts & any other tool presets.

    Try these steps:

1 - Set up the workspace as you desire.

2 - Create the workspace preset in Photoshop from Window> Workspace > New Workspace.

3 - Manually back up the Workspace preset. Go to the following location and make copies of your workspace presets (.PSW).

    • Windows 10/11: Users/[user name]/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop [version]/Adobe Photoshop [version] Settings/Workspaces

    • macOS: Hold down the Option key in the Finder when using the Go menu. The library will appear below the current user's home directory.

Library > Preferences > Adobe Photoshop [version] Settings > Workspaces

When you update, the preferences are carried forward. Any slightly broken links are not carried forward, and there is no way to 100% prevent it.

You can, however, ensure there are no stale preferences in your Photoshop; go to the location of the preference folder below and rename it to backup.

    • Windows 10/11: Users/[user name]/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop [version]/Adobe Photoshop [version] Settings

    • You can press Press the Windows key > Enter 'Run' > Enter %APPDATA%\Adobe

    • macOS: Hold down the Option key in the Finder when using the Go menu. The library will appear below the current user's home directory.

Library > Preferences > Adobe Photoshop [version] Settings >

    • Rename the Adobe Photoshop folder by adding a .old at the end. (Adobe Photoshop 2025 > Rename > Adobe Photoshop 2025. old), You can restore these preferences later if needed.(https://adobe.ly/4860qM9)

    • Restart the computer.

These changes will give Photoshop a fresh start as a new install. Let me know how it goes.

    Thanks!
