16-bit tiff image not going back to original folder?

I am learning Rawtherapee.  After doing RT, I often send the image to PSE14 for further tweaking.  Then when I use Save As (windows 10), the image does not go back into its original folder, but goes into ....AppData>Local>Temp.  I believe that this defaulting is due to the fact that this image is a 16-bit tiff and not 8-bit (which does go back into original folder.) Is there any way to get the image to go directly into its original folder; and/or, before doing Save As, can I quickly convert the 16- to 8-bit?
