2) When I rotate an image, it does not stay rotated but returns to the original state

Adobe Elements Organizer 2023 V. 21.0 in Windows 11 Pro

I have tried “Refresh screen”, F4, “Refresh Thumbnail Cache”, “Catalog Optimization”, “Rotate JPEGs using Orientation Metadata option is enabled”, “File” > “Manage Catalog”, > “Optimize” as well as “Repair”.

Also tried:

Batch Rotation: Use Edit > Rotate Selected Photos for batch processing. Ensure metadata is saved afterward to make changes permanent

Save Metadata Changes:

  • After rotating an image, ensure you save the changes by selecting File > Save Metadata to File. This action writes the rotation metadata to the image file, making it persistent across sessions

It sounds like the scanned files do not have any orientation metadata.

Here is another possibility to experiment with:

  • Select a file, rotate it and immediately send it to the Organizer's Instant Fix editor
  • Make an edit.  It doesn't matter which one and it only needs the smallest of adjustments. (Clarity might be a good one to test with.)
  • Click the Save button and then the Done button (to exit the Editor)

 

Does the rotation stick?  If it does, you can select multiple files and batch edit them in the Instant Fix editor.  (Just a thought.  Let us know if it works.)

It sounds like the scanned files do not have any orientation metadata.

YES this appears to fix the issue. After making adjustments I exited and re-started Organizer and the orientation remained corrected. One caviat, after selecting multiple files > entering Instant Fix > editing individual files: be sure to click on View > second (right) icon (show all photos) to return to remaining files to also modify and save them. Otherwise I found the Instant Fix window closes.

Are you talking about the Editor or the Organizer, or both?

The only time I have seen this problem is in the Organizer with .heic files from an iPhone.  What format are your files?

 

If you are talking about the Organizer, try rotating and saving the file in the Editor.

The files are .jpg digitized from 135 color film strips. In Organizer.

I am converting hundreds of images so opening each in Editor to then rotate and close would take hours.

I will try it to see if it holds and report back.
