30 frustrating minutes, still can't figure out how to create a panorama in PSE 20 (2022)

I've read several threads here on how to create a panorama, which contained links to several help articles. NONE of them seem to work in PSE 20 (2022).

Expert mode: Select File | New and something (Photomerge or Panorama or ...?). But no, the only choices are Blank file or from clipboard.

Guided mode: Select files from the Photo Bin, and click on Photomerge Panorama. Shift click? Nope, doesn't work. Ctrl click? Seems to work (maybe, it's extremely subtle), but no, selecting them all then clicking Photomerge Panorama brings up a panorama with one file in it.

Is there any simple way to select 5 files and create a panorama out of it?

So, is that it? No one knows how to make a panorama using PSE 20 (2022)?

It could be that it does work for everybody else ?

What seems most likely is that nobody knows why it does not work for you.

I suggest that we concentrate first on your problem with the 'Edit' menu in the organizer.

If clicking on the Edit menu does not work, there is the shortcut Alt + E. Does it work better?

Another situation is when you use the search tool on top right to find and select your panorama items candidates.

The search result does not let you acess the browsing space to select files until you use the 'back' arrow on top left to go back to the normal browsing space. The menu bar with 'Edit' is not accessible when you are looking at the search display; you have to go back first.

If you can't get regularly to the Edit menu, unfortunately you might have to reset preferences and even to uninstall/reinstall Elements.

If you can now access the Edit menu normally after selecting your panorama items and select the photomerge > panoramo option, you should wait until the 'Guided' edit modes displays the first image.

Then click on the Photobin icon to check if all items are present.

Don't bother with options now, just click on the 'Create panorama' button on the bottom right. Wait until you are presented with the merged result.

Does it work up to that point? Do you get any message?

I'm sure you're right, and probably I should've just started trying things, but I appreciate your prodding me into it.

Alt-E highlights 'Edit', but there is no drop-down menu. Hitting <Enter> at that point de-selects 'Edit' and (strangely) selects ALL files shown in the organizer!

I wasn't even aware of the search ability. 🙂 Now I am; thanks!

I may have just solved the first problem, selecting 'Edit'. I think the problem might be a bug dealing with high res displays (mine uses 3840x2160). I made the unmaximized window smaller, and it now seems to let me select Edit as normal.

And, for whatever reason, that seems to have completely solved my problem. Because now it does create a panorama, rather than loading the files into individual tabs. So thank you so much!!

There has been three ways to start a panorama in the editor, which explains you get conflicting explanations in the forum and even in the official 'helpx' docs which still keep old versions without mentioning which they are describing.

I have chosen to use the simplest  and most logical one: to use the organizer, which is built to provide ways of creating and organizing from several pictures selected in a catalog. That has never changed depending on versions.

Select your files in the organizer.

Menu Edit > photomerge > panorama

Be sure to display the photo bin to be able to follow what is happening.

Once all items are displayed in the photo bin, click on the create panorama button bottom right.

I generally choose to continue in Expert mode.

Thank you very much for your reply. I appreciate the help, and the reasoning of why I've been having such difficulties.

Unfortunately, following your explicit instructions does not work for me, either. After selecting the files, just trying to select the Edit menu is nearly impossible. It keeps doing weird things like maximizing the window, popping up an Explorer window, or simply not responding to a menu click at all. But after many tries, I was able to finally select Edit > photomerge > panorama.

It then loads all the files in SEPERATE tabs, such that the panorama contains ONE file! Not much of a panorama. 🙂

I expected better from Adobe. Been using PS for about 15 years, never had these kinds of frustrations.
