Question

Adobe Elements 15 Organiser really slow

Having run Elements versions for many years, I use it for importing my photos, both JPG and RAW files; RAW files from Panasonic, Canon, etc. have always been a bit slower to copy across from the card reader, granted.

Recently, Elements 15 has started to crawl when importing any photos, I mean really slow, especially with my Fuji RAW files, so much so I went downstairs made a coffee and sat down again and only 8 files had been pulled across.

OK, I have the same Windows 10 Pro on Intel i7 gaming PC, 1TB SSD and 16GB RAM, Nvidia 1080 graphics card, no slouch; no running apps except AVG and yet Adobe Photo Downloader was using 368MB.

Anyone else noticed photo file importing running like a sick dog recently?

I have this problem, too. I upgraded to 15 from 11 a few weeks ago and got one batch of photos in, but that's it. Elements Organizer is taking up half of my CPU and nearly 500 MB of memory. I'm not sure what it's up to, but none of the menu items work, so I can't even affect the settings, in case it's doing something I don't need. I'm running Windows 10 on a Dell desktop. What the hell?

Apart from the slowness in the import stage, did you notice other feature really slower than before?

You might try in the menu Edit >> Preferences of the editor:

- to uncheck the 'Use graphic processor...' checkbox in the performance tab

- to change your scratch disk to another drive

In the preferences of the organizer

- to import via Windows and see if it's faster to 'Get files' from 'Files and folders'

- to disable face recognition, and anything automatic such as watched folders, automatic reconnection

- to import the same pictures in a new empty catalog.

It's curious how such reported slowness do appear on high end hardware on Elements or even Lightroom. Of course, the size of raw files is important (my Fuji raws are 32 MB), but the download time should be about the same with APD than with Windows, even if the thumbnail generation requires a raw conversion in the background. I have no slowness for importing even with a minimal configuration in Windows 10.
