Alternative to History Brush

In Photoshop's full version, I've learned how to lighten a face by saving an overexposed Snapshot in History, which I then use to lighten the face in the original image with the History Brush. Since there is no History Brush in PS Elements (?), I am looking for an alternative method to lighten parts of an image such as faces in shadow. Any ideas?

There are many techniques available to do that.  But each tool has different strengths and weaknesses.  In my opinion, probably the best method for most exposure edits is to use the File>Open in Camera Raw command which uses the Adobe Camera Raw editor to give you complete tonal control over exposure.

If you are talking about a face that is partly in shade and partly in bright sunshine, then the the Dodge and Burn tools may serve your purpose.  These can be used with a soft brush and a low exposure setting to gradually lighten or darken parts of an image.

Other methods would include brightening the entire image and using a mask to select the parts of the face that need to be lightened.  This is somewhat akin to the History Brush.
