Question

Are there shortcuts for Menu Commands or Tool Options?

I have Elements 2021. I found a lot of shortcuts for the tools in the Toolbox Panel and the Layers Panel in the User Guide.  But I haven't found any shortcuts for the Menu Commands or the Tool Options. I have a hand tremor that might lessen with the right medication and dosage, or it may get worse with age.  Consequently, I need to reduce my dependency on the mouse (not to mention the time waisted using it now that I know the names and purposes of the tiny icons).  Specifically, is there a shortcut for Edit - Cut - Create New Layer - Edit Paste - hide layer - return to Background layer, without using the mouse?  Also, is there a shortcut to return to Backround layer? I seems to me that the up and down arrow keys should have a purpose.  Thank you, Ann.

I've found two copies of shortcuts in the pdf format, designed to be printed up, one os very pretty to look at (Visual) the other is basic, they are located on this page of my website:

Yes, it is possible to perform most commands via keyboard.

To access the menu commands, press the Alt-key.  The menu will then display the underlined letter you need to press in order to open that menu:

Once you select a menu letter, the menu will open and present another set of underlined letters for most commands.  The complete KB shortcut for the command is also displayed as an alternative. If there is no underlined letter for a particular command, you can use the arrow keys to highlight the command and press Enter to complete it.

So, for example, to create a new layer:

  • Press Alt-L (to access the Layer menu)
  • Press N (to access the New sub-menu) and
  • Press L (to create the new layer)

Or, you can just press the KB shortcut Shift+Ctrl+N:

To select and move between layers, use Alt+ the square bracket keys.  In other words:  Alt+[  or Alt+]

You can find a complete list of Elements Keyboard Shortcuts at this link.

Hope this makes things easier for you.
