Assertion Failed Photoshop Elements Organizer Not Opening

I recently created a TIF image to use in an old Topaz program that I can not access through the 2023 Editor of PS Elements.  Then I tried converting the TIF to a JPeg and the Organizer crashed.  I got the following error message

Assertion Failed

Program: Elements 2023 Organizer\PhotoshopElementsOrganizer.exe

Expression: sp->cinfo.comm.is_decompressor

I did a chat with Adobe and they said this was a known problem which they are working on.  They recommended making a new catalog until the issue is fixed and not importing any TIFF files.

However, that is a really time consuming and wouldn't perserve my file structure, keywords etc.

I did read several posts here and located the offending TIFF in the vitual pictures folder and deleted it. The Elements Organizer opened......upon scrolling through the images.......I found one file with the hour glass still spinning ...the offending TIFF file again.  I deleted it.  I have closed and opened the Catalog several times.  And the problem appears to be resolved.  My fingers are crossed.

I am Windows 10, Elements 2023 and LR Classic.  I use the Catalog in Elements, LR to adjust exposure and then finish in the Elements Editor and save to an external hard drive.  I do not use the LR library.

I hope this helps someone else with this issue and of course any suggestions would be appreciated

@janeh88919911:  Thanks for the information.   The real problem for some may be finding the non-conforming tiff file(s).  But it is good to know that deleting (or perhaps moving) the files will allow the Organizer to open correctly.  I believe the spinning hourglass appeared because the deleted file became "missing".  You did exactly what was needed to resolve the problem.

I think you are right on the spinning hourglass.  I 'm still  confused by this whole mess.  Since the TIFF was saved to my external hard drive, why did I find a TIFF file on the C drive in the Picture Folder, sub folder Adobe.  I do not have files that are in Pictures folder imported into the Organizer.  I specifically point the Organizer to the external drive.  Perhaps I saved to the wrong place, that has been known to happen.  I am not sure why Adobe even has a folder in the Picture's folder.  This is all beyond me.  I am just grateful that the issue appears to be resolved.
