before/after picture on same display not possible anymore?

Hello,

I just dowloaded Photoshop Elements 2026 and I cannot anymore see the see the pics before and after at the same time, it this normal? The button offers only before or after, not anymore both together.

If this is a bug I hope it will be fixed quickly, if it is normal then it is really a loss of functionality ! Is there an easy way to still see both together?

Thenks for any feedback!

I thought that perhaps the op was referring to the missing Before/After side by side view that was removed in the Quick mode in PSE 2026.

Now in PSE 2026 instead of seeing the before and after as side by side, you now have to press a before/after button to see the before and after results.

It is an unfortunate decision on the part of Adobe to remove that option. Especially given that is very helpful in executing thoughtful edits. I often use quick mode when making changes, simply because not all changes require expert mode. Being able to see the before and after at the same time allows comparison. It’s too easy to remove something that’s important from an image and not realize it has disrupted the composition when you can’t see the original at the same time.

It’s by design--  for some oddball reason.   It’s not a bug, and with a new version withing 4-8 weeks of release there is zero chance this feature would be added to pse 2026.

I do think I found a quick n easy solution (from 9 years ago!) to this missing feature that many appear to request:

FILE>DUPLICATE.   Then WINDOW>IMAGES>TILE.

There are a couple of other options out there but their use results in a “clunky” work flow- so I don’t really even bother talking about them.

I’m going back to using PSE 2025 because that feature is missing. It’s a feature that I use constantly.  I hate that I wasted money on the upgrade.

Your referring to Quick mode in the Photoshop Elements 2026 Editor?

It’s in Adobe Camera Raw.   Click on the square icon near the bottom right corner.  It should be the first icon the far right of the visible star rating.    The forum isn’t allowing image uploads right now, sorry.

When I was creating  the original post I l kept getting error messages about waiting for a file to upload, so I closed that post, and started another one.

I did that few times while trying out different things to see if I still got the error message.

It’s available in Adobe Camera Raw (ACR).

The response from below is 3 years old- but still applies.

Many users in the past have used the history (F10) panel to view what they started with- and many say using it is quicker than a before/after side by side comparison.

There could by any number of reasons why it’s not a clearcut option in PSE, however, I think it may be simply because not too many people use it.

I used it all the time.
