Black & white adjustment layer

I'm following a tutorial online that calls for me to add a black & white adjustment layer. In the tutorial, the instructor clicks on the adjustment layer icon in the layers section on the right side and the 'black white' option is available. I have Elements 15, and when I click on the add adjustment layer icon, that option isn't there. Is there a way to create a black and white adjustment layer in Elements 15?

-Thanx in advance

The tutorial may be for Photoshop, rather than for PSE. In any event, do the following:

Set the color chips to default (foreground chip:white, background chip:black

    Open picture file

Then, open a Gradient Map adjustment layer.

    Another way:

    Open the picture file

    Then, press CTRL+ALT+B

    Another way:

    Open picture file

Open Hue/saturation adjustment layer and slide the saturation slider all the way to the left.

Thanks for the help!  Just to give you a little more background on my issue, the tutorial not only called for a "Black and white" layer,  but it also calls for a "high contrast blue filter" for the preset. Using the instructions provided by Hatstead,  not only was I able to create the black-and-white later, but by  putting a check mark in the "colorize" box , I was able to change the hue to mimic the high contrast blue filter preset.  I've been stuck on the step for almost 2 weeks! Thanks for the great advice,  and for showing me yet another feature to this awesome program, Hatstead
