BRUSH TIP

i'M getting really frustrated again! I can not get a brush tip to give me a brush tip that I can SEE. I get nothing but a cross hair which I can not SEE. no matter what size I make the brush, I get nothing but a cross hair---I need to see the size of the brush!   Yes, I shut down the program and opened it again and I still do not get anything except a cross hair which I can not SEE. and, yes, I checked Preferences and have the full size brush tip checked.
