Camera raw 12.2 installation

I have just installed Photoshop Element 2020 and am trying to get it working. The camera raw is greyed out so I downloaded and ran the installation file for camera raw 12.2 but it doesn't show up in the editor and I am still getting an error message on CR3 files.

Is there some special way of installing this? I am very frustrated as the installation process has been very slow and the product is not working.

Thank you, thank you. After days of frustration I have sorted this out on the basis of your question. There was no folder for elements 18/file formats. I created this and copied the camera raw.8bi file from the CC/file formats folder to it. After restarting PSE 2020 it all works and even opens the latest Canon CR3 format (which is why I bought PSE 2020 in the first place).

If only the Support team at Adobe could have done this. I spent hours on line with them and with them poking through my machine and nothibg happened. I must say I am not impressed with the fater sales service from Adobe.

Enough oif my unhappiness, it is hopefully all sorted now. Thanks again Jeff.

Okay lets try renaming the CC folder to Elements 18

Thanks, that would have been slightly simpler. I created a new folder for
elements 18, but same effect. It worked.

Thank you for your help

If you go to

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\Elements 18\File Formats

or

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CC\File Formats

do you see a Camera Raw.8bi in either location?

The directory "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\Elements
18\File Formats" "does not exist. The file is there in C:\Program
Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CC\File Formats.

There is no ACR 12.2 today for Elements. Nobody knows if and when there will be an update. What you have downloaded is the full ACR version for Photoshop, which is incompatible with Elements.

So, consider using the free Adobe DNG converter (not a plugin) which can batch convert a whole folder of proprietary raw files to the universal DNG raw format that even older PSE versions can read and edit. An additional batch step, but free with the same quality. See the link in the above tech doc.

Thanks for the reply. I was looking for 12.0 but can't find it. Elements
2020 is supposed have version 12 but the camera raw option is greyed out
completely, hence my attempt to install it. I am now reinstalling Photoshop
Elements for a 3rd time. Perhaps this might work. Or perhaps Adobe can give
me my money back

From the editor help menu:

About plugins >> Camera raw...

What's your version?

Immediately after installing PSE, you should have received a notice about upgrading.

The current version is 12.0.0.321
