Camera raw won't load when opening a file into photoshop elements 2024

When loading a raw file into photoshop elements 2024, camera raw just shows a blank screen. I can still click on "Done" (or any of the other buttons at the bottom) to insert the photo into photoshop elements but I can't view the image or make changes in camera raw. Also, when clicking "about camera raw" photoshop elements freezes and I have to force quit it. Photoshop elements also still shows the option to install camera raw under the help menu. When opening a file it shows camera raw version 15.5 at the top even though I have installed version 16.0 from online and creative cloud shows that camera raw 16.0 is installed. I have tried re installing camera raw through photoshop elements, uninstalling and re installing photoshop elements, and installing camera raw from online. I have also tried opening files from diferent camera with the same problem.

I'm running MacOS 14.0

What model and year is your Mac?

Try

6. Check and delete the TempDisableGPU3 or TempDisableGPU2 files

(it's at the very bottom of the following KB page)

I think it looks like you probably messed something up installing ACR.

Follow these instructions and you can even install ACR 16.0 -- which works fine on my windows computer:

Find out how to update the Camera Raw version on your Mac or Windows machine.

Note:

The following is a workaround to update Camera Raw within Elements. It is recommended to wait for Camera Raw updates within the product for issue fixes.

If you haven't been able to update the Camera Raw plug-in for Elements, follow these steps:

  • Quit all Adobe applications.
  •
    • On macOS, double-click the .dmg file to mount it.
    • On Windows double-click the downloaded .zip file to unzip it. (Windows might unzip the file for you.)
  •
    • On macOS, double-click the .pkg file to start the installer.
    • On Windows, double-click the resulting .exe file to start the installer.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions.
  • Once installed successfully, close the installer window.
  • Navigate to the following folder:
    • On macOS: /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-ins/CC/File Formats
    • On Windows: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CC\File Formats
  • Copy the Camera Raw plug-in from the CC > File Formats folder that is mentioned in the above step.
  • Navigate to the following folder:
    • On macOS: /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-ins/Elements<Version Number>/File Formats
    • On Windows: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\Elements<Version Number>\File Formats
  • Replace the existing Camera Raw plugin in Elements<Version Number> folder with the plug-in that you copied in step 8.

Unfortunalty, that did not work. Photoshop elements still crashes when clicking about camera raw. The only change is that now the image and histogram does apear in camera raw but the sliders and values do not and the version shows as 16.0.(See img)
