Can I get a boxed windows version working on MacBook?

So I bought Adobe Photoshop Elements 15 boxed version for Windows. However I want to use it on my Macbook.

I did some reading online and found that it's possible to install it on two devices. I then downloaded PE15 on my MacBook and tried using the serial key from the box. When I use this key however, I get the message it's not a valid key. Is there any way at all to get it working on my MacBook, without having to buy it again?

    In some cases, serial numbers are platform specific.
