Question

Can I update from Photoshop Elements 4.0?

I have the disc drive for Elements 4.0. I installed it hoping that I could update it to a more modern version, but I haven't yet been able to figure out how. If anyone knows how (if it's even possible), I would apreciate the help!

I assume that you have not loaded anything irreplaceable onto the version 4.0 I used version 7 when it was ‘well past it’s use by date’ and even with the help of Adobe I could not update the program fully and get a considerable amount of indexed and dated data in the correct places. I ultimately had to buy version 18 (PSE20) and am still reorganising data two years on. Recommend you but the latest version to start with.

There is no need to install a prior version in order to "upgrade" to a newer version.  Each version installs independently.  However, in order to get the upgrade discount version, you need to have the prior serial number.  (I'm not sure whether that is true with version 4.)

There is currently a 40% discount available at Adobe.com.  It expires today (6/29/2022).  If you are able to get it, it is way less than the usual discount, and is probably as cheap as you will find anywhere or any time.

Good suggestion @Greg_S.

One added advantage of a new full version is that you can reinstall it with just the 2022 serial number. With an upgrade you always need two serial numbers: the 2022 number and the version from which you upgraded - which people often lose or misplace.

Thanks! Is there any way I can check qualification before purchasing?
