Can't import tags attached to avi video files

Hi there. My job requires me to organize photos and videos by keywords and tags so that certain media files will be easy to find based on these tags. I have imported a bunch of videos and tagged them using PSE organizer. I want to export the tagged videos to a folder where when the files are imported onto PSE on another computer the tags assigned to the videos are there. To test this I imported the videos to PSE in a separate catalog from the catalog I tagged the videos in. when I import the videos the tags I placed on the videos aren't remembered. Is there a way to tie tags to avi files so that when they're imported onto PSE they can be searched up easily? Another question I have is whether the tags assigned to the files can be read by other programs.

An answer as soon as possible would be much appreciated.

I have found what I need to do. I have to save the metadata to the files but the option to do so is greyed out. Not sure why.

I converted my avi files to mp4's and it still doesn't let me save the metadata. Perhaps there is something else causing the issue?

If you tried to 'Write metadata to files (Ctl W)', you probably got a message telling you that metadata can only be saved on jpegs, psd, tif and raw files.

Maybe you may get better help in the Premiere Elements forum:

but I think you can't write metadata in video format files. For raw files, the metadata are written either in xmp sidecar files or an ACR database.

So what purpose does keyword tagging have if I can't review the files later by keyword on a different machine for instance? Is there a workaround for this?

I still want to be able to reference videos by tag despite the machine I'm using to run PSE. I want these files to be organized by the content of the videos I'm planning on uploading. I'm planning on uploading these videos to a cloud based server and I want the files to be organized when downloaded from the cloud, is there a way to do this?

    Read this:

As far I can tell, avi format can't store your tags, so, you can't write metadata to tags.

They are only stored in catalogs (organizer or Lightroom for instance). Other softwares can't read those catalogs.
