Can't open Photoshop Elements 6 for mac

I've had Photoshop Elements 6 for mac for over a year and it was working fine although RAW was never able to update.  About a week ago I went to open it and it would not open.  I've tried daily, have done all Apple updates and all Adobe updates and it still wouldn't open.  Then I uninstalled it and reinstalled it and it still won't open.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

Are you running 10.6.3, by any chance?

Raw never auto updates for PSE, incidentally. You need to download and manually install the updates.

I would try this. Go to your username>library>preferences and delete:

    com.adobe.Photoshop.Elements.plist

    Adobe Photoshop Elements 6 paths

    Adobe Photoshop Elements 6 settings

    Opera Preferences

Repair permissions and try again. If it still crashes, go to applications>PSE 6>plug-ins>import/export and delete the adobe TWAIN driver. (Note that if you have an Epson scanner it may not work right after doing this.)

Exactly what happens when it doesn't open?  Does it just try to open, and then fail?  Or does it display an error message of some sort?

I don't think a new Apple update is causing the problem.  I have Elements 6 and 8 on my Mac running 10.6.3.  Since I bought Elements 8, I haven't opened Elements 6.  I just opened Elements 6, and it opened without incident.

When Elements 6 starts up, a large electric-blue circle appears on the screen.  About a third of the way down the circle, Elements displays exactly what it is doing as the start up progresses.  Watch that status carefully to see what it completes successfully - and exactly where it comes to a screeching halt.  That will tell you - and us - where the hang up is.

Bob, I think you are right.  It seems this all started when I did an Apple update a couple of weeks ago.  To answer your question, the big blue Photoshop circle appears and all it says is initializing and then disappears.  Then I get an Apple message "The application Photoshop Elements quit unexpectedly"... and I can Ignore, Report or Relaunch.  Relaunch does nothing.

I am having the same problem. I reverted to a backup before the update to 10.6.3 and it worked fine.  When I reinstalled the updates that came up, it again caused the problem with PSE 6.  I don't know if it's specifically the 10.6.3 update, or one of the other things that went with it (itunes, imovie and iphoto updated at the same time).

So, I'm going to have to roll back again (sigh).

I'll subscribe to this thread to see if anyone else finds out anything new, so please post back if you do!
