Can't see new imported photos

New to Elements and driving me crazy trying to get Organiser functioning properly.

Using Mac with latest updates and elements 14.

Imported all existing pics into Organiser and looks fine retaining folder structures - reflects what i can see in Finder under Pictures where I defined as the location.

Thought all ok but then imported more pics from camera via Organiser and although i can see those new pics the relevant Finder folder they are not in the same relevant folder in Organiser.

Doesn't appear any filters set that could exclude those new pics. I have no Albums set up as like working from the existing folders but that should be fine?

Makes me suspect that Organiser is not looking are the same file location but that shouldn't be the case - if I select an existing pic in Organiser and click Location from panel on RHS it brings up the pic in Finder in that appropriate folder under Pictures.

Any help really appreciated.

    Hi James,

Good that your pictures have been correctly imported now to Organizer. There could have been some hardware or database related issues unseen upfront that might have caused this inconsistency.

What is the relationship between the folders on the hard drive and the same folders as imported into Organiser? Are there limitations with how you can work with those folders in Finder / Organiser and are changes in one reflected in the other?

The folders in Organizer are the reflection of folder structure on hard drive. Whatever changes you make to the folders from organizer applies directly to main folder structure on hard drive which is instantly visible in File explorer. However by default, only those folders show up in Organizer which have associated files in Organizer imported. If you wish to see the subfolders for any folder, right click on it and select Show all subfolders. It would now display all the folders. Any changes you make to folders  from outside might take a refresh (switching between albums and folders or restarting application ) to reflect in the application.

    Hope this answers your query.

    Hi James,

Please mention what makes you suspect that the pictures are not in the correct folder? Since you mentioned that opening the location from right information panel opens it up in correct folder then is there any other place where the location is mentioned wrong? Answer the following queries to have more clarity over your issue:

    • Is the location in right information panel being displayed correctly? If you are not able to read it's location completely, you can either hover over the ellipsized location value which will show you a soft tip with complete location or you can expand the right panel by pulling onto its edge and dragging to left.
    • Open Folders panel at left and select View as Tree.

Now select the image which you imported from camera. Right click on it and select Go to Folder from it's context menu. This will highlight the folder in left panel. Do you see it in wrong folder here?

Please get back with your responses.

    Thanks,

    Hi Arshla

Just to clarify - I can not see the imported pics in the Organiser folder but I can see them in the same folder on Finder. I do have the folders View as Tree in Organiser and that folder structure is correct (the same as in Finder).

So since the new imported pics are not in the Organiser folder I cannot click on any to verify a location. Again - I can confirm the new pics are visible when i look in Finder so this seems very strange.

Checking the location of other existing pics in Organiser as per your suggestion - yes they all display correctly in the Location panel on the RHS (i.e. it gives the correct hard drive path which is consistent with their location on Finder).

So given that outcome didn't change anything I decided to import the pics again as luckily i had not deleted them from the camera. I imported using exactly the same process from Organiser - Import / From iPhone/iPad (given the camera not visible using the Import from Camera option - a known issue that i wish Adobe would fix) - camera appears as the device and pics are all selected with a green tick - select the correct folder - Import All.

NOW they appear in the folder in Organiser!! I check the same folder in Finder to check it hasn't duplicated the pics and it didn't so all good. Fantastic.

It would be easy to conclude that I had not imported them correctly the first time - however I had and that is proven by the fact that the pics had been imported into the folder and were visible on Finder - but they were not visible in the same folder in Organiser.

One matter i have had difficulty getting clarity on is...What is the relationship between the folders on the hard drive and the same folders as imported into Organiser? Are there limitations with how you can work with those folders in Finder / Organiser and are changes in one reflected in the other?

    Many thanks

    Hi,

    Sorry for the inconvenience caused.

Could you please attach a screenshot showing folder structure of Organizer where files are and of Finder where media is.

    Thanks,

Hi, prefer not to do that for privacy reasons given folder names and the fact that this is no doubt an open forum.

Anything else i can do to clarify the situation?
