Can't see photos saved on a thumb drive from a Nikon

Regularly used Photoshop Elements 2020 to download photos from camera saved on a thumb drive. Suddenly Monday PE could not see the thumb drive or its contents. A trial copy of PE 2021 has the same problem. The thumb drive is accessible to other programs. I just transferred an image from it to Facebook. Another copy of PE 2020 on another computer can open these images, but it is slower.

Interesting thought. But the PE could not access the hard drive contents
either. By pursuing troubleshooting in windows 10 I eventually solved
the problem as a compatibility issue.

Look on the thumb drive for any "thumbs.db" and "DS_Store" files- and delete them.  When they get wonky the display of thumbnails is affected. the DS_Store file sometimes get in the way of windows computers displaying thumbnails.

Your OS automatically creates them as needed.

Copy the images to your hard drive and then open with Photoshop Elements.
