Can't update Photoshop Elements 12

I'm moving a thread over to Photoshop troubleshooting.  My original thread is here:

Re: Can't update Photoshop Elements 12

Here's my issue:

I reformatted my computer on 01-01-18.  I installed the latest build of Windows 10 Pro 64-bit.  Afterwards I installed Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 from a downloaded installer that I have used in the past.  Photoshop Elements installed just fine.  However, Photoshop Elements thinks there are no updates for it whenever I try to update it through the help menu.  I know I'm not running the latest updates for 12 since my camera raw files are not supported.  Previous to the computer being reformatted I had no issue with the camera raw files.

According to help | about I am running Photoshop Elements/Organizer 12 (20130925.r.43436).  How can I update this to the latest version of 12 if the product does not see any updates through the automatic update in the help menu?

I suspect there may be a problem with AAM Adobe updating software.

There should be an option to update to the 12.1 version and the 8.5 ACR module.

I think you should update the AAM program first, see this post of today:

    Thank you.  You nailed it!

I updated AAM to v10.0.  Then I opened Photoshop Elements and try to update via Help | updates.  This time it saw that I needed to update and the update went successfully.

    Thanks again!

I can try installing the newer version of AAM.

Will the new version of AAM work with a standalone version of Photoshop Elements 12?  I don't have Adobe Creative Cloud, Adobe Creative Suite 6, or Adobe Creative Suite 5.5.

Yes, the AAM works with Elements, it's the same as for the Creative Cloud.
