cannot reinstall elements

I have a Macbook Pro 2010 running 10.7.5

I have been using photoshop elements for years.

I recently had someone from Apple helping me to solve a permissions issue which was not the right thing! And they broke all of my programs!!

I am now trying to reinstall photoshop elements from the original CD but it will not work.

I don't know what to do.

I tried using the install / reinstall program but when I am prompted to put in the disc it doesn't see that I have put it in, so I am unable to complete the task.

I don't know what else to try.

Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

Thank you!!!!!

Does your drive read other discs?  If not, it may be a drive or driver issue.

    What version of Photoshop Elements?

I have my original disc for elements and my serial number. I looked at what version of photoshop elements is on my computer and it was elements 10. I tried downloading it and installing it but it would not recognize my serial number. So I read that when you are installing just one element you have to make a special arrangement for that. On the site it recommends uninstalling and cleaning. I have run the uninstaller. Now It is saying that I need to eject the disc image. And when prompted, the installer just goes away. So that is not working.

My original disc for elements 3 is not working either it says something about not supporting power pc.

So in the meantime I tried downloading photoshop elements 9 but that isn't working either.

I'm not sure what to try doing next.

    Thank you!!
