Cannot save My Organizer

I have 122,000 pictures in my Organizer, over 16 years, and depend on the Albums and Tags for my work.

For the first time I am having trouble saving and transferring onto another computer using an external hard drive.  I do this a few times a year as a back-up for all of my work.  It appears to save okay, but will not restore, saying there is no recognisable file in 'E', the exteranl hard drive.

I asked about this before and have tried various things but still not working.

So now my question is this:  If I download the new 2021 PSE, do you think I will then be able to restore?

Thank you

Thank you, but I have managed to do so in the past, many times.

Impossible.

You may have restored old backups in the correct old version, that's all.

You can only restore a backup from same or earlier versions. Here in your case, you can take a backup of the PSE 15 catalog, and restore it to PSE 2020, but not vice versa.

Yes.

It's the same with converting PSE catalogs to Lightroom: you can but you can't convert Lightroom catalogs to PSE organizer ones.

Thank you.  I  must have restored to later versions each time.  Now installed 2021 onto backup laptop and everything worked, so it is now sorted.  Thanks again.

Hi,

Do you see a .tly file in the backup folder in the E drive? Please make sure the .tly file needs to be selected in the Backup file path, and not the parent folder.

Also, which version you took this backup, and which version are you trying to restore to?

Thanks!

Thank you for your reply. Not sure what you mean by 'parent folder'.

Anyway, yes, back-up with a .tly file. Has always worked before, but now it
says at the very last stage it says there is no such file in 'E'. I have
tried it with different external hard drives and different laptops, and the
fault seems to lay with the original back-up. It all seems to be okay and
it says back-up is finished, but something is wrong. It is PSE 2020 and I
am trying to transfer it to PSE 15 as a backup. Thank you.
