Cannot save or save as JPG or PSD on MAC High Sierra PSE 2020

Have been using PSE for years.  Suddenly with 2020 version I cannot save edited photos as JPG or PSD.  I get a popup saying 

"because the file name was not valid."  What gives??? How do I create a 'valid' file name?  Any explanation or workaround? Thank you.
