Question

Cannot see edited files in File Explorer

I have installed Elements 10 on a new Windows 10 laptop. If I edit a picture and then save the edited version in a new folder, Elements can see and re-load the picture but the file does not show in File Explorer so I can't copy the file to a new location, make backups etc.

Am I missing something, done something wrong? As it stands Elements is not very useful as I can't copy the files or view them in any application other than Elements.

Hi,

Please refer to the following link for better understanding of saving files:

Save and export images in Photoshop Elements

File explorer can not open the PSD format. You need the software which supports these, like Photoshop Elements, Photoshop etc.

Try exporting them to other formats to view in file explorer.

Thanks,

Arshla

Thanks for the reply but the problem is not that I can't open them - Windows File Explorer does not even show them (and I have Elements 10 installed and I can open some of my older PSD backups in Elements just by double clicking on them). e.g. What I do is:

  • Edit a file in Elements 10
  • Save it in say D:\Updates as a JPEG file. Elements can see the files.
  • Go to D:\Updates in Windows 10 File Explorer, Nothing is displayed - no files at all. The file list is empty.
  • Weirdly the files do show up when I access D:\Updates from the Quick Access feature in Windows 10.

Hi Nigel,

I would request you to save this file with "Include in Elements Organizer" option checked.

Go to Organizer.

Check the location of this saved file in right information panel under General tab.

Click on this location -> check if the location opened through Organizer reflects the file in explorer correctly or not.

Please reply back with your findings to resolve the issue further.

Thanks,

Arshla
