Question

Canon 5D Mark IV not compatible with my current version of PSE

I recently purchased the Canon 5D Mark IV and discovered their dual digital raw files are not compatible with my current software.  I did my research and found the easy fix is to convert files to DNG but I foresee this a huge pain to complete an additional step every time I need to edit files.  I currently own PSE version 12 and would look to upgrade so I can resolve this issue.

What software update should I purchase - Photoshop Elements 2018 or 2019?

Adobe does not sell old versions, so the current version is all you will be able to buy

FAQ: Will Photoshop Elements work with my camera, or Why won't my raw files open?

    Cameras supported by Camera Raw

Camera Raw plug-in and Adobe application compatibility

So, yes PSE2018 or PSE2019 support your camera raw files.

Personal advice:  If your computer has the recommended system requirements (8 GB RAM), there are many reasons to choose the more recent one, not only for new features, but for:

    - better compatibility with Win or Mas OSs (browse this forum...)

    - availability of the Maps feature (Google has cut the access to its Google Maps in PSE2018)

    - The two last versions are in 64 bits, so much more powerful than your PSE12 version. PSE2019 has been improved in speed if you have more than the minimum system requirements. To take advantage of you raw files, the more RAM, the better!
