Caralog Problem

Using WIN 10 and Elements 12. While editing an album of jpegs, all files except one dropped out of the album. When I tried to reload the files into the album, I got a msg that the files were already in the catalog. I was unable to use the Find function to get so I could mark them as part of the album.  I think it may be a catalog problem. Can anyone help?

If you mean that nothing is showing in the All Media grid except for a single pdf file, it sounds like you have turned off the display of all photos.  Press Ctrl+1 and everything should return.

Glad it has all worked out.  If you still want to delete the empty Album, right-click on it and there is a delete option in the context menu.

Your suggestion worked. Ctrl+1 returned the pix to all albums except one. One album shows just 1 jpeg and should show 100+. I would like to delete the album and create a new album with all the pictures. How do I that? When I created the new album  and tried to put in the jpegs that were in the original album, I get a message that says the pictures are already in the catalog and none of the jpegs are linked to the new album.

I solved my problem. I went to find files not in an album and scrolled through all the pictures. I highlighted all the images that should have been in the album I selected. I then dragged the album name to one picture. That got all the pictures back into the album. Brute force, but it worked. Thanks for your help.

@pinY56 are you using Elements 12 or 13?  (You have mentioned both.)

You say that when you click on an Album, there are no media to display.  Are you talking about what Elements describes as an Album, or are you talking about a Folder?  And if you click on a folder, what happens if you then click on the All Media button:

And when you say you have tried to select an individual pic, right click and select open with>PE13 Editor, are you talking about Windows Explorer?  There is no such Organizer command in PSE versions 12 or 13.  (Yes, there is a command to Edit with Photoshop Elements Editor, but I need to have a clear description in order to help you.)

If you get to the All Media view of the Organizer and scroll through the grid, are you seeing any Album icons as shown in my earlier post's screenshot?

1. When I say album, I mean what PE calls an album.
2. When I look at folders, as in your illustration, and I click on "all
media", I get one pdf from 1984 and one album name from 2014 with no jpegs.
I can do nothing with them.
3. If I go to windows file manager and right click on a jpeg, I get a
dropdown list that offers "Open with>PE13 editor" as a choice. If I left
click on that, the jpeg comes up in PE13 editor. I am able to edit that
jpeg.
4. Before this problem began, all my jpegs in albums had the album icon.
The files were in the folders where I expected them to be. The files have
customized names, not their camera-generated filenames.
5. In summary, the jpegs are in the folders where I put them. The album
names show in the album list in PE Organizer. The jpegs are compatible with
PE editor. The problem is in the linking of the jpegs to their assigned
albums. Thanks again for your help.

Which Find operation did you use?

For the files that you found with the Find command, was there an Album icon associated with them?

How were you trying to reload the files into the Album?  All you should need to do is drag the Album icon to the thumnail in the grid or vice versa.  You should not have to import the files again.

For the files that you found in the catalog, if you right-click and select Go to Folder, are they in the folder that you expect them to be?  Are the files in many different folders?

Have you given the files customized file names or do they have the names given by the camera or scanner?

Do you have any missing files in the catalog after performing the Find >All Missing Files operation?

Latest status: When I launch PE13, it opens, says it's loading catalog, and then shows my albums. When I click on an album to see the pix, no pix display. I get a msg that there are no media to display. I then try to see pix by loading them using menu file>get photos>from files and folders. I then select some pix and try both Get Media and Open. No pix display. I get a message that Nothing has been imported. Already in catalog.

I have tried to select an individual pic, right click and select open with>PE13 Editor. The picture displays and can be edited. My conclusion is that there is a problem with PE13 Organizer and its link to the catalog. Any suggestion? Thanks.

Please explain your workflow in more detail.

When you edited the files and saved them, did you change the name of the files?  If so, those files will not be automatically included in the same Album as the original files.

What do you mean by this?  A catalog is not an album in the Elements Organizer, although many users confuse the terms.  Please tell us exactly what you are talking about.

Thanks for the prompt response. The editing to which I referred was just the deletion of one file (picture) from the album. Suddenly all I had was one picture left in the album. I tried to reload the pix into the album from the drive on which they were stored. The response I got was that nothing was added because the pictures were already in the catalog. I next tried the Find command asking for two files and was successful, but didn't continue because entering  the filenames of 100+ files was unappealing. I then tried loading a few files from their storage drive using Files>Get files and photos, but couldn't get to next step (from files and folders). Then the Find command stopped working. I have tried contacting Adobe. They offer no support because of the age of the PE version. At this point, I can start Photoshop Elements and see a list of my albums but I can see no files. My original thought was that this was a catalog problem. I now think Adobe did something to cut off my access to all my pix until I buy a new version of PE. Any help would be appreciated.
