Question

Changing default folder for Elements 12

Recently re-loaded Elements 12 into my new laptop.

Downloading pictures from my external drive (F) all files in Elements are now only available from the F drive.

As I have downloaded to "C" - how do I change this default setting.

Many thanks.  HCH

Transferring your image files library AND YOUR CATALOG to a new drive or computer:

Move Elements Organizer catalog | Elements 6 or later

There is no such thing as a 'default' drive. Your catalog is a database storing the original location of each image file, drive identification (drive letter AND internal serial number) as well as the path in the folders tree. Your organization is stored in that database. If you change the physical location of your files on the original drive outside of the Organizer, the contents of the catalog are not updated and all your photos are shown as 'missing' or 'disconnected'.

The best course is to follow the above link: from the old computer, do an organizer backup on an external drive and from the new computer, do a restore where you want. The process updates the location data in the database.

You could try to 'reconnect' all missing files, but it's cumbersome:

    Photoshop Elements (PSE) knowledge base.

Many thanks for your quick response. It will take me a bit of time to find out if I have carried out your suggestions accurately.
