Clone Stamp Tool lagging

I have Elements 2022 Editor and all of a sudden clone stamp tool has been lagging, I have to wait for it to 'catch up', makes things hard to acurately clone.

I've searched PS and the internet and tried unchecking 'Show Overlay', but that didn't work (I've always had it checked)

Any suggestions?

    On the tool's option bar, look for a box to click on to reset the tool.

    If that does not fix it, go to Edit menu>Preferences>General and click on the button to reset preferences on next launch. Then, close the program, and reopen.
