Codec is missing - where can I get it from?

Mp4

I just bought Adobe Elements and Premiere 2024 and find that my mp4 files cannot be displayed in the Organizer, even though the built-in list shows that the Organizer includes mp4.

I understand that it is something with the Codec.

I am using Windows 10.

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6700K CPU @ 4.00GHz 4.00 GHz

The same mp4 file that cannot be displayed in Elements 2024 is displayed fine both in the media player and WLC media player

Where can I get and install the required Codec

I've been playing with codecs for more than 25 years and I still don't understand how or where they operate or how each program uses them.  I have found that when new software is installed, it can take over how a codec is used by an older installed software.  Reinstalling the old software usually fixes that problem.  Clicking around in the Organizer may have changed some registry entry, but that is pure guesswork on my part.  Or perhaps Handbrake installed the required codec.

So, no, I can't give you any explanation for what has happened on your machine.  The important part is that everything is now working for you.  Put it down to the invisible computer genies.  😁

What is the source of the mp4 file?  If the file has HDR enabled, it is not supported by Elements.  Please post a screenshot of the error message.

And you can try using Handbrake which is a free utility to recode the video.  The video should then play in Elements.  You can use Handbrake to batch process multiple videos.
