Have had PE 11 for many years, no problem. Yesterday the following started:
When I open a photo in Editor, the color of the workspace turns black. If I open RAW file in Camera RAW, it does not, but anything opened in editor does. 
In Windows,
Right click on any point of the black background surrounding your image in the document window.
Do you get a drop-down menu to choose the color of that surrounding space?
I suppose there is an equivalent ot the right click in Macs.
